The Seagate Barracuda 500GB represents the mainstream desktop tier of Seagate's Barracuda line — a 7200 RPM SATA drive built for general desktop use rather than NAS or surveillance-specific workloads. At 500GB, it suits a secondary bulk-storage drive more than a primary OS drive in a modern build.
7200 RPM keeps sequential transfer speeds reasonable for a mechanical drive, noticeably faster than 5400 RPM "green"/eco drives, at the cost of slightly more noise and heat under load.
For cheap secondary storage — game installs, media libraries, backups — where an SSD's price-per-GB doesn't make sense, a Barracuda-class drive like this remains a sensible, low-cost option.
